Road Trips to Rock This Summer, All Across the Country
August 17, 2017
Summertime is barbecue season, outdoor concert season, and beach season, but it's also road trip season. Regardless of what corner of the country you want to explore, one of these popular road trip routes can guide your way.
East Coast: Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. Skyline Drive spans 105 miles of stunning scenery in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, including 300 square miles of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The tree-lined road winds through the mountains and, at about the halfway point, you'll come upon Skyland Lodge. It's a collection of cabins and suites where you can enjoy some rest and relaxation before completing the rest of your journey.
West Coast: CA Route 1 from San Fran to Big Sur. There's a reason why Big Sur has starred in countless movie montages. This breathtaking stretch of the California coast is unrivaled in natural beauty anywhere else in the country, and when you travel iconic Route 1 from San Francisco, you'll have the chance to see it for yourself. Expect awe-inspiring views of the St. Lucia Mountains disappearing into the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean and, of course, canyons covered with flourishing trees.
The South: Atlanta to Charleston to Macon (with pit stops in between). For road-trippers who double as foodies, there's only one place to go: The South. This road trip launches in Atlanta with local barbecue and wine, followed by a pit stop in scenic Charleston, then Beaufort, Hilton Head, and picturesque Savannah. It concludes in Golden Isles and Macon, Georgia. Along the way, sample fresh seafood, Southern comfort food, and more.
