Deck Out Your Apartment for Fall with These Decorating Ideas
September 11, 2017
As autumn approaches, it's time to think about breaking out the knee-high boots and budgeting for daily pumpkin spice lattes. It's also time to revamp your apartment in honor of the season. Here are a few simple DIY projects to get you started.
Mini Pumpkin Votives [Southern Living]
When it comes to fall decor, there's no such thing as too many pumpkins. And since you can pick up pint-sized pumpkins at the grocery store for a dollar or two, mini pumpkins are a popular way to decorate come October. Jazz up your assortment of petite pumpkins by using a carving knife to slice out a circle just large enough to fit a tea light. You can float these pumpkins in an autumnal centerpiece or simply arrange them in a vignette on the coffee table.
Autumn Leaf Artwork [Just a Girl]
Using only a piece of wood as a backdrop, leaves gathered from outside, and a healthy amount of ModPodge, the crafter behind the blog Just a Girl creates a cute (and cheap) piece of fall art. Start by gathering brightly hued leaves that have fallen outside, then pressing them between wax paper and allowing them to dry for a few weeks. In the meantime, draw a large outline of an autumn leaf on your piece of wood. Once the leaves have dried, arrange them to fit inside the outline, trimming the edges only when necessary, and secure them in place with ModPodge.
Faux Gold Apples [Southern Living]
Since apples are in season during the fall months, they're sort of the unofficial mascot of autumn. Transform the haul from an apple-picking excursion into an eye-catching centerpiece by spraying large apples with golden spray paint and arranging them in a vintage bowl. You can also pick up retro candlesticks at a thrift store, spray paint them in the same shade, and place them on either side of the bowl for an extra flourish.
