Decorating Your First Apartment? Check Out These Pro Tips.
October 9, 2017
Decorating an apartment for the first time may seem like a daunting task. It's your own space, and you want it to reflect your personality as you welcome friends and family. Here are a few decorating tips to get you started—the rest is all you!
- Embrace curves. By bringing curvy pieces into your space, you'll help to tone down the boxy feel that many apartments have. Incorporate a round end table, an art piece that showcases circular shapes, or a comfy chair with curving legs.
- Make it feel big. If you want to make your apartment feel just a little bigger, adding furniture that you can see through (like a glass dining table, coffee table, or end tables) gives the illusion of just a bit more open space. Hanging curtains higher than your windows and hanging mirrors in certain spots can also have the same effect of making your apartment feel larger.
- Add an area rug. Even if your apartment has carpet on the floors, you can still throw a fun area rug on top. If you have hardwood floors, that's even more reason to warm up the space with something soft underfoot. Find an area rug that's big enough to tuck under at least the two front feet of a piece of furniture, like the sofa. If the carpet beneath is pretty neutral, or you just don't have a lot going on in terms of other decor, don't be afraid to play with bold colors.
