How to Pack the Perfect Spring Picnic

Now that it’s May, you can be confident that the warmer temperatures are here to stay. And that means one thing: it’s time to get outside. One of the best ways to do that is to plan a picnic at your favorite park! As you pack your basket, consider these tips.

  1. Find your theme. If you want to create a picnic spread that’s as aesthetically pleasing as it is delicious, you might want to think about following a specific theme. Pick a color or a certain type of cuisine to tie together your picnic table.

  2. Pick a few fun recipes. A picnic is the perfect time to flex your culinary muscles and try something new. The casual setting lends itself to experimentation in the kitchen, so find a new recipe for a fresh summer salad or homemade mason jar salsa and give it a go.

  3. Showcase snacks. Don’t feel like you need to serve a traditional main course at a picnic. Without the convenience of a kitchen, it can be difficult to prepare something substantial—especially if you like hot food. Instead, create a snacky meal composed of smaller bites like fresh fruit and veggies with dips, crackers and cheese, or a few cold side dishes.

  4. Don’t forget the lawn games. No picnic basket has been adequately packed without a few lawn games tossed in! Include some activities you can enjoy after the meal to burn off those calories, like a Frisbee, a ring toss set, or a football to toss around.
