Essential Tips for a Summer Road Trip

June 10, 2019

Road-tripping is one of the best ways to go exploring without breaking the budget. If you’re thinking about going on a road trip this summer, follow these tips to make the entire experience go smoothly.

  1. Pack an actual map. If you’re like most people, you probably rely pretty heavily on your GPS when you’re traveling, and that usually works out just fine. It’s only when you suddenly lose cell service that things suddenly get complicated. That’s why you should always pack an old-school map when you’re on a road trip, just in case you end up in a remote area with spotty service.

  2. Take healthy snacks. Road trips typically involve a lot of stops at fast food joints and convenience stores to grab some quick meals, and the constant stream of greasy and unhealthy food could have you feeling lousy by day two. Instead of relying on whatever eateries you stumble upon for sustenance, pack some healthy snacks to keep your energy up during the journey, like nuts and seeds, dried fruits, and whole-grain crackers.

  3. Renew your AAA membership (and check the spare tire). When you spend a long time on the road, you never know what you’ll run into, so it’s important to be prepared. Make sure your AAA membership or subscription to another roadside assistance company is current, and double-check you have a spare tire ready to go.

  4. Map out every pit stop in advance. Of course, the most important part of any road trip is choosing your destination. Once you have that figured out, try to pinpoint each stop you’ll make along the way, from sight-seeing to grabbing a meal. Don’t forget to factor in breaks and overnight stays along your route, if necessary.
