Pumpkin Decorating DIYs That Are Anything but Basic
October 11, 2019
If the classic jack-o-lantern just doesn’t have enough flair for you, it’s not your only option. These DIY projects put a fresh spin on decorating Halloween pumpkins.
Paint-Dipped Pumpkin: This one really couldn’t be easier. Scour the pumpkin patch for your favorite, and then bring it home and clean it with hot, soapy water and rubbing alcohol. This will help the paint to stick. Then encircle its bulbous center in a strip of painter’s tape, flip it upside down and nestle it into the painter’s tape roll as a base, and start painting. Any hue will do, just make sure you apply as many coats as it takes to cover up the orange. Once it dries, remove the tape and put your paint-dipped pumpkin on display.
Glittery Gourds: Maybe the paint-dipped pumpkin still doesn’t have quite enough pizzazz for you. If that’s the case, just add glitter to the mix. From coating the pumpkin’s stem in glue and glitter to painting mini-pumpkins and embellishing them with bits of gold foil, this roundup of glitter pumpkin tutorials has DIY projects for all tastes (plus a few pumpkins you can just buy if you don’t want to DIY).
Chalkboard Pumpkins: You’ve probably heard of using chalkboard paint on your walls, but have you ever considering drenching a faux (or real) pumpkin in the stuff? The result is a chic black pumpkin that can be inscribed with any autumn or Halloween greeting at any time, just as long as you have some chalk on hand. You can also use glitter paint to add a festive strip or dress up the pumpkin’s leaves, which will help to balance out the black.
