How to Update Your Bedroom for Cooler Weather
September 18, 2020
As the days get shorter, you might find yourself wanting to hop right into bed after dinner to devour a good book or watch your favorite spooky movie. So why not make your bedroom a little more inviting? Get nice and cozy for fall by adding these elements to your existing decor.
- Start with warmer bedding. Put away the lightweight comforter and cotton sheets, and get ready for cooler temperatures! Start with some cozier sheets, perhaps flannel or even velvet. If you like something a little crisper, linen is a good option, too. Add a heavier comforter or maybe just an extra throw blanket or two to really get comfy.
- Add a cozy area rug. A plush area rug is a great way to keep your feet warm on chilly autumn mornings when sleeping in just isn’t an option. Even if you have carpet in your bedroom, you can still add a high-pile area rug to make stepping out of bed feel like stepping onto warm clouds.
- Turn down the lights. Harsh lighting will make your bedroom feel anything but cozy. Swap out the lightbulb in your bedside lamp with a lower wattage for fall. The dimmer light will help you get ready to sleep after a long day, even if you want to read or listen to a podcast before bed.
- Hang blackout curtains. The final touch for your cozy autumn cocoon? Blackout curtains. If you have trouble sleeping at night, light-blocking curtains can create a cave-like oasis—which is a good thing. Replace your sheer, gauzy summer curtains with heavier options designed to keep the light out and the heat in.
