While many associate St. Patrick’s Day with green-tinged beer and heady pints of Guinness, some of the holiday’s more delicious libations are enjoyed outside the glass! If you’d rather spend this St. Paddy’s Day at your apartment instead of at the pub, try cooking up these authentic Irish recipes. They’re sure to bring a deliciously celebratory feel to your meals on March 17!
Irish Soda Bread. Elevated with the flavors of caraway seeds and dried currants, this rustic bread is leavened using baking soda. Serve the bread with a pat of butter, and enjoy it with a cup of coffee or as a side to Irish stew.
Beer-Braised Irish Stew and Colcannon. St. Patrick’s Day isn’t complete without a taste of beer, corned beef, potatoes, and cabbage, and this recipe offers all of the above in every bite! To serve the stew, create a well in a pile of the colcannon, and spoon the beef mixture and some gravy over top.
Copycat McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes.Inspired by the seasonal fast-food favorite, this recipe isn’t traditionally Irish, but it’s delicious just the same! To make the milkshakes, add vanilla ice cream, heavy cream, peppermint extract, and green food coloring to a blender, then whirr until smooth. Garnish each glass with a dollop of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.
