Must-Know Furniture Shopping Tips for Apartment Dwellers
May 14, 2021
When you live in a smaller space, it’s important to make the best use of every square foot. That means carefully choosing furniture that works well for you and your needs. Here are a few tips to help.
- Aim for balance in every space. Whether you’re mapping out the living room or the guest room, balance is important. For example, if you choose to purchase an oversized sofa, balance it out with a couple of smaller, understated easy chairs opposite it.
- Shop the essentials first. While the aesthetic of a room is obviously important, making sure you have all the basics should be your first priority. That includes a sofa, chairs, and TV stand for the living room; a bed frame, mattress, and nightstand for the bedroom; and a table and set of chairs for the kitchen or dining room.
- Know when to splurge (and when not to). Some pieces of furniture are worth breaking the bank, but others can be thrifted! For example, a comfortable mattress is important for health and quality of life—don’t skimp. But when it comes to the bed frame, you can probably find something of quality at a secondhand store that will still fit your style.
