How to Pick the Best Produce at the Summer Farmers’ Market
June 18, 2021
Summer is farmers’ market season! If you’re excited about skipping the grocery store and shopping for local produce instead, here are a few tips to follow to make sure you get the highest quality food.
- Let the season be your guide. When fruits and veggies are in season locally, they’ll taste much better than any produce that travels from another region. Opt for seasonal groceries at the farmers’ market, such as berries and melons.
- Bright hues are best. Touching and sniffing produce will probably still be off-limits this summer, but you can always check out the color
- Feel free to ask questions. One of the perks of shopping at the farmers’ market is that the experts on the food are also the ones manning the vendor tables! Feel free to pepper the farmers with questions about the way they raise their crops in order to assess the quality.
