Danville Area Community Harvest: Gift California’s Natural Bounty to People in Need

July 6, 2017

From avocados to oranges, all types of fruit hang from trees all over Danville. And most of that fruit will ultimately hit the ground and go uneaten. Make better use of the region's natural bounty by volunteering for the Danville Area Community Harvest.

The Urban Farmers, a local nonprofit organization, periodically arranges harvests that consist of volunteers going out to local backyards and harvesting the fruit hanging there. The fruit is then doled out to local food pantries, food banks, soup kitchens, and shelters so that those in need can enjoy fresh, healthy food. Typically, there's more than enough to go around, so volunteers are "paid" in a brown bag of fruit that they can take home. Register online to volunteer for the next Community Harvest on Saturday, July 8th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
