Design the Perfect Summer Road Trip With These Tips
June 28, 2019
If you’re interested in taking a last-minute vacation this summer, but don’t want to brave the airport, a road trip is the perfect alternative. It’s affordable, flexible, and can be thrown together in a day or two. Here’s how to plan and prep for your summer road trip.
Plan your travels and pit stops carefully… First things first: decide on your final destination. Depending on how much time you have to spare, that destination might be a few hours away or a few days away. Once you know where you’re headed, map out pit stops along the way, including attractions, bathroom breaks, overnight stays, and meal stops.
…but feel free to improvise! It’s a good idea to have a pretty thorough itinerary when you embark on a road trip, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to it all the time! If you see a billboard for a local attraction that you missed during the planning phase, feel free to deviate from your plan a bit.
Bring along nutritious nibbles. Staying in any kind of routine while you’re on the road is difficult, but that doesn’t mean you should totally abandon your normal lifestyle during vacation. To help offset the burgers and fries that will inevitably happen along your journey, pack some healthy snacks, too. Fresh fruit, trail mix, and popcorn are a few easy options.
Pack a paper map. Chances are you’ll be able to rely on your GPS for most of your journey, but you might cut through a few dead zones where you can’t get any service. This is why it’s important to pack a paper map as a backup. Refer to it when your devices lose their connection.
